Sonnet 1

Our artificial insemination,
adopted from cattle and poultry farms,
prompted the public to set off alarms,
prophesying forced fertilization

of teenage girls lacking proper guidance.
Yet, we remember the mass abortions
of nameless Black children, the extortions
of imprisoned mothers, forced complacence.

Funny, after we broke the first atom
leaving radiation to spread and sow,
life’s value began to oscillate down.

Determined by the free market's wisdom
our life is priced, bargained, and bought for show.
Our existence, forever, dollar bound.
